Maxine Weiss ist eine interdisziplinäre Künstlerin, deren Praxis Skulptur, Installation, Video und Recherche umfasst. IIhre materialbasierte Praxis beruht auf einem experimentellen Ansatz, bei dem industriell hergestellte Materialien, gefundene Objekte und organische Komponenten wie Pflanzen in einer nicht-hierarchischen Beziehung zueinanderstehen. Pflanzen nehmen in Weiss’ Arbeiten oft eine zentrale Rolle ein und reflektieren kulturelle, historische und wirtschaftliche Kontexte. Diese botanischen Elemente verkörpern eine vergängliche Ästhetik, die ihre Wandelbarkeit in den Fokus rückt – sie erscheinen zugleich vertraut und seltsam fremd. Weiss erforscht die Koexistenz verschiedener Spezies und das Zusammenspiel zwischen Mensch und Umwelt, wobei das Meer, als fundamentale Kraft in ihrer künstlerischen Praxis eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Maxine Weiss is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, video, and research.
