Der Titel „all forms modify their context” basiert auf dem Verständnis, dass jegliche Existenz ihre Umwelt beeinflusst und wiederum selbst beeinflusst wird. So wirkt die Agave als skulpturales Element ebenso auf die Rezipient:innen ein, wie sie als wachsende Pflanze ihre Umgebung in Südfrankreich prägte.* Der Kontext verschiebt sich, und sie tritt in der Installation in Verbindung mit dem Raum, seiner Infrastruktur und anderen Materialitäten. Die Pflanzen werden zu hybriden Wesen, die, losgelöst von ihrem Ursprung, beginnen, sich zu transformieren und sich an eine kühle, industrielle Umgebung anzupassen. Begleitet werden sie von Videoarbeiten, Zeichnungen und Skulpturen, die die Wechselwirkungen zwischen menschlicher Präsenz, natürlicher Umgebung und deren kontinuierlicher Veränderung hervorheben.

*In Südfrankreich gelten Agaven als invasive Pflanzenart, die andere Pflanzen verdrängen und die „Ursprünglichkeit“ der Landschaft stören. Um diese „ursprüngliche Natur“ wiederherzustellen und der Verdrängung „heimischer“ Pflanzen vorzubeugen, gibt es im Nationalpark „Les Calanques“ Initiativen, die die Ausbreitung dieser Sukkulenten eindämmen wollen. Freiwillige gehen in die „Natur“, um die Agaven auszugraben oder auszureißen. Interessant ist die Vorstellung einer „natürlichen Natur“, die bewahrt werden soll. Ursprünglich wuchs die Agave americana im heutigen Mexiko und den angrenzenden USA. Durch die Kolonialisierung wurde sie nach Europa gebracht, wo sie sich von botanischen Gärten aus verbreitete.

The title “all forms modify their context” is based on the understanding that every existence influences its environment and is itself influenced in turn. As a sculptural element, the agave has the same effect on the recipients as it had on its surroundings as a growing plant in the south of France.* The context shifts, and in the installation it enters into a connection with the space, its infrastructure and other materialities. The plants become hybrid beings that, detached from their origins, begin to transform and adapt to a cool, industrial environment. They are accompanied by video works, drawings and sculptures that emphasize the interactions between human presence, the natural environment and its continuous change.

*In the south of France, agaves are considered an invasive plant species that displace other plants and disrupt the “originality” of the landscape. In order to restore this “original nature” and prevent the displacement of “native” plants, there are initiatives in the “Les Calanques” National Park that aim to curb the spread of these succulents. Volunteers go into “nature” to dig up or uproot the agaves. The idea of “natural nature” that is to be preserved is interesting. The Agave americana originally grew in what is now Mexico and the neighboring USA. It was brought to Europe through colonization, where it spread from botanical gardens.
